1.1 We are not a law firm; no legal advice

TX Law Advisor is an informational directory. We are not a law firm, and nothing in our Services is legal advice.

1.2 Do not send confidential information

Do not submit confidential, privileged, highly sensitive, or time-critical information through forms, messages, reviews, or uploads (other than credentials requested for profile verification). The Services are not designed for secure legal intake.

1.3 Who we serve

We collect information from:

  • Visitors (people browsing/searching the directory),
  • Reviewers (people submitting ratings/reviews),
  • Attorneys/Firms (people claiming and managing listings, buying subscriptions, featured placement, or ads),
  • Business contacts (inquiries sent to support/legal).

2) Information We Collect

We collect information in three main ways: (A) you provide it, (B) we collect it automatically, and (C) we obtain it from public sources or third parties.

2.1 Information you provide directly

A) Account and contact information

  • Name (if provided)
  • Email address
  • Username and password (password is stored in hashed form by WordPress, not readable by us)
  • Phone number (optional)
  • Company / firm name (if provided)

B) Profile claim and verification materials (attorneys/firms)

  • Documentation you upload to prove you are an authorized representative (e.g., business documentation, bar-related documentation, authorization proof)
  • Claim history, timestamps, and administrative notes

C) Listing management content (attorneys/firms)

  • Listing edits and updates
  • Photos, logos, marketing materials
  • Practice areas and descriptive text you submit
  • Responses to reviews (if enabled)

D) Purchases and billing-related information

  • Subscription choices and upgrade selections (e.g., Pro Spotlight, ads)
  • Stripe identifiers (e.g., Stripe customer ID, subscription ID, checkout session ID)
  • Transaction status and payment confirmations
    Important: Payment card information is processed by Stripe and is not stored by us.

E) Reviews

  • Star rating (1–5)
  • Review text
  • Reviewer name (if provided)
  • Email address (if provided or required for verification/anti-spam)

F) Support and legal communications

  • Messages you send to support/legal email addresses
  • Attachments you send (if any)

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you use the Services, we may automatically collect:

  • Device and browser data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, language, time zone
  • Usage data: pages visited, searches performed, clickstream, referring pages, approximate location derived from IP, time spent, links clicked
  • Cookies and similar technologies: session cookies, preference cookies, security cookies, analytics cookies (see Section 6)

We use this information for security, performance, analytics, and to improve the Services.


2.3 Information from public sources and third parties

A) Public listing sources (directory seeding)
We may create and display law firm listings using information sourced from publicly available business listing data and similar sources (e.g., public web pages, public directories, publicly accessible business listing information). This may include firm name, phone, website, address/location, categories, and links.

B) Third-party processors and service providers
We may receive limited information from vendors that help operate the Services, such as:

  • Stripe (payment status, subscription status, transaction identifiers)
  • Hosting, email delivery, security, and analytics providers (as applicable)

We do not control third-party privacy practices.


3) How We Use Information

We use information for the following purposes:

3.1 To provide and operate the Services

  • Display directory listings and related content
  • Create and manage user accounts
  • Process profile claims and verification workflows
  • Enable listing edits for verified subscribers
  • Display and moderate reviews
  • Provide paid features (Featured placement, ads) and administer approval workflows

3.2 To process payments and manage subscriptions (via Stripe)

  • Create Stripe checkout sessions
  • Confirm payment and subscription status via webhooks
  • Provide receipts and account history (as available)
  • Prevent fraud and abuse

3.3 To protect the Services and enforce policies

  • Detect and prevent spam, fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access
  • Enforce Terms of Service and directory integrity rules
  • Maintain audit logs for claims, approvals, and moderation decisions
  • Comply with legal requests and protect rights and safety

3.4 To communicate with you

  • Respond to support inquiries
  • Send account notifications (claim status, subscription status, moderation decisions)
  • Send administrative messages about material changes to policies or services

3.5 To improve and develop the Services

  • Analyze usage patterns, diagnose issues, and optimize performance
  • Improve search, sorting, and user experience
  • Develop new features and directory tooling

4) How We Share Information

We share information only as described below:

4.1 Public information on the Site

Certain information is public because it is part of directory content, such as:

  • Law firm name
  • Location/address (if available)
  • Phone number and website (if available)
  • Practice areas (if provided)
  • Public profile content, badges, featured status
  • Reviews and star ratings (moderated before publication)

4.2 Service providers (processors)

We may share information with vendors that help us operate the Services, such as:

  • Stripe for payments and subscriptions
  • Hosting providers
  • Email delivery providers
  • Security and anti-spam tools
  • Analytics tools (if enabled)

4.3 Legal and safety reasons

We may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to:

  • comply with law, legal process, or government requests
  • enforce our Terms and policies
  • protect rights, property, or safety of Operator, users, attorneys, or the public
  • investigate and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents

4.4 Business transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards.


5) Verification Materials (Credentials) — Special Handling

Credential uploads submitted for profile claims may contain sensitive business or identity-related information. We apply additional handling:

  • Credentials are used only to evaluate claim authorization and protect the directory from fraudulent edits.
  • Access is restricted to Operator/admin reviewers and necessary service providers (e.g., secure storage/hosting).
  • We do not publish credentials publicly.
  • We may retain verification records for fraud prevention, audit trails, and compliance.

Do not submit privileged client information or confidential case details in credential uploads.


6) Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate and secure the Services. Cookies may include:

  • Essential cookies: authentication, security, load balancing, preferences
  • Analytics cookies: help understand usage and improve the Services (if enabled)
  • Fraud prevention / rate limiting: protect forms and review submissions

You can control cookies through browser settings. Disabling cookies may limit certain site functionality (e.g., login, saved preferences).


7) Reviews, Moderation, and Reputation Systems

  • Reviews are moderated before publication for spam, harassment, confidentiality, manipulation, and policy compliance.
  • Reviews may be edited for formatting/clarity (without changing meaning) or removed if they violate policies.
  • We may use technical signals (IP, device data, behavioral patterns) to detect review fraud or brigading.
  • Attorneys responding to reviews should avoid posting confidential information; we may remove responses that create risk.

8) Data Retention

We retain information as long as necessary to provide the Services, comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect the directory.

Examples:

  • Account records: retained while active and as needed thereafter for audit/security
  • Claim records and verification logs: retained for fraud prevention and operational integrity
  • Billing records: retained as required for accounting/tax obligations (Stripe also retains records under its policies)
  • Reviews and moderation logs: retained to maintain directory history and prevent repeat abuse

When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it, subject to legal obligations.


9) Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for safeguarding your password and account access.

If we become aware of a security incident affecting your information, we will take reasonable steps to investigate and notify as required by law.


10) Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to:

  • request access to personal information we hold about you
  • request correction of inaccurate information
  • request deletion of certain personal information
  • object to or restrict certain processing
  • opt out of non-essential communications

Public listings and reviews: If you request deletion of content that is public (e.g., a review), we may remove it if we can reasonably verify authorship and if removal is appropriate under our policies and legal obligations.


11) Children’s Privacy

The Services are not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact [email protected].


12) Third-Party Links and Services

The Services may contain links to third-party websites and services (including attorney profile sites and Stripe). We are not responsible for third-party privacy practices. Review their privacy policies before providing information.


13) International Users

TX Law Advisor is operated from the United States. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., you understand that your information may be processed and stored in the U.S. where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.


14) Do Not Sell or Share (Privacy Law Statement)

TX Law Advisor does not sell personal information to third parties and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under certain privacy laws.


15) Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last Updated” date when changes are posted. If changes are material, we may provide notice on the Site and/or by email to subscribers.

Your continued use of the Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
